Selamat datang kembali di blog tercinta ini. Kali ini saya akan menulis tentang grammar lagi yaitu tentang materi other. Penggunaan other dalam kalimat
bahasa Inggris seringkali membuat orang-orang bingung. Supaya tidak bingung, simak penjelasa di bawah ini ya.
With Count Nouns
an + other + singular noun (one
more) -->
another pencil = one more pencil
the other + singular noun (last of
set) --> the
other pencil = the last pencil
other + plural noun (more of the
set) -->
other pencils = some more pencils
the other + plural noun (the rest of
the set) --> the
other pencils = all remaining pencils
With Non-Count Nouns
other + non-count nouns (more of the
set) -->
other water = some more water
the other + non-count nouns (all the
rest) --> the
remaining water = the remaining water
Another dan other tidak spesifik
sedangkan the other itu spesifik. Jika subjectnya diketahui, kita dapat
menghilangkan noun dan tetap mempertahankan determiner dan other sehingga other berfungsi
sebagai pronoun. Jika sebuah plural count noun yang dihilangkan, other berubah
menjadi others. Kata other tidak akan pernah menjadi plural (jamak) jika
diikuti noun.
I don’t want this book. Please give
me another.
(another = any other book- not
specific)
I don’t want this book. Please give
me the other.
(the other = the other book-
specific)
This chemical is poisonous. Others
are poisonous too.
(others = other chemical- not
specific)
I don’t want these books. Please

(the others = the other books- specific)
Kamu juga dapat mengganti noun
dengan pola other + one or ones. Agar lebih jelas lihat contoh ya.
